Mansoor Zaman of PAF won the PSO International Squash Championship 2010 defeating Waqar Mehboob in best of five sets by 11-5, 11-4 and 11-4. Waqar won two sets by 11-8 and 11-10. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani gave away the prizes. The six-day championship was organised by Punjab Squash Association.
Addressing the final ceremony Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called upon the private sector to play its due role and share responsibilities in the grooming of our youth, as it is our national duty to provide healthy and safe environment to our youth.
"Our democratic government has special focus on sports. We have taken a number of measures to channelize youth energies towards healthy activities. However, the government alone cannot achieve the desired results without the active participation of private sponsors", he added. He said I now call on other organisations as well to come forward and join us in building a successful future for our youngsters. Our youngsters are doing very well by the grace of Almighty Allah.
The role of Pakistan Squash Federation and the Punjab Squash Association to make this event a success is commendable. Prime Minister under their able leadership and guidance, these youngsters shall Inshah Allah fill the vacuum and once again Pakistan shall be on the top in the squash world. Both the print and electronic media particularly PTV's excellent coverage of this event is laudable.
