Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the entire attention of the current government is on the education sector because illiteracy is the root cause of terrorism and extremism in the country. We would free the country from terrorism by educating our people because it is the only solution of this issue.
He said this while addressing in Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) here on Saturday evening. Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that the situation of law and order in the country is poor that's why no foreign investment is being done here. We are trying our level best to tackle the situation and the brave people of law enforcing agencies are even sacrificing their lives for the complete eradication of terrorism from the country.
PM awarded Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Scholarship to 30 students of the varsity and said, "I am sure that these students deserve the scholarships and I believe that they would work hard for the betterment of the country". Prime Minister hoped that very soon BZU would be included among the best universities of the world and for this teachers and students would have to prove that they are really working on this mission.
Current government is fully focusing the education sector and has also announced the National Education Policy in this regard. He said that earlier we had allocated Rs 31.7 million for education in the budget but now 7 percent of the total budget would be allocated for the education sector.
"Higher Education Commission (HEC) would get 20 percent from this total of 7 percent of the education", he added. He said that the world has now become a global village and to acquire higher education has become the need of every person. Federal Minister for Education, Ghulam Farid Kathia and Chairman HEC, Dr Javed were also present on this occasion.
It is also to be noted here that Prime Minister had already provided the funds of Rs 1 billion for different development projects of the varsity and this time too he has provided the funds of Rs 30 million for different development projects. Earlier Prime Minister reached BZU via road straight from the airport here on Saturday evening during his short visit to Multan. He laid the foundation stone of two new blocks and extension of three others costing Rs 515.537 million at BZU.
He inaugurated the newly constructed Saraiki Department and Multan College of Arts. Under the package by PM, two buses, a van, two animal ambulances, two 1000cc cars and a tractor trolley was also provided to BZU. Tight security arrangements were made on this occasion. Prime Minister then went back to Islamabad after a short period and will come again today (Sunday) where he would address a big public gathering and lay the foundation stones of some other development projects.
