The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought report within three days from Regional Police Officer (RPO) Gujaranawala about the murder of two sons of a woman Shamshad Begum by police. Chief Justice Khawja Muhammad Sharif passed this direction while taking suo motu notice on a new item published in a daily newspaper.
As per details, Shamshad Begum said she had an old enmity with Hakim Iqbal, resident of Baghwan Pura Gujranawala. Iqbal had got involved her son Aqeel in a fake case of kidnapping cum ransom in 2009. She said in the wee hours of January 3, heavy contingents of the police cordoned off the area and attacked her house along with other accused persons.
The police locked women in a room and subjected them to torture. Police shot dead her two sons Aqeel and Badar Butt and looted valuable articles from her house. She further alleged that police took bribe of Rs 10 million from her opponent party to kill her two sons. She said the police even went further to accumulate her miseries and registered a fake police encounter case. She said accused persons are now hurling life threats on her as police were taking sides with murderers.
