Upper Fata Livelihood Development Programme Fata Secretariat awarded 25 fully funded scholarships amounting Rs 10.36 million to Upper Fata students enrolled in Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar. These scholarships were distributed among the students of MBA (General) and M Sc (Development Studies/Computer Sciences and MS-Management).
These awards were distributed by chief guest Nazir Ahmad, Director Scholarship and Literacy U-Fata LDP. The Director Scholarship and Literacy U-Fata LDP informed that currently they are offering scholarships at different level of academic sessions, which includes Master Degree Programme, Intermediate (HSSC) Scholarships, Vocational/Technical (DAE) Scholarship and SSC (7th to 10th Grade) scholarships with a total number of 883 students on board.
Speaking on the occasion, Nazir Ahmad of LDP, said that the Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, has made a worth-mentioning progress in the last few years by motivating its graduates to play their role in economic and political development of their motherland.
He stressed to work together and to ensure the successful implementation of this scholarship programme. We experience pain when we look at the geo-political and socio-economic situation in Fata. Students are our potential leaders, as such they should be provided with more opportunities for transforming themselves into beneficial and successful individuals of society. In near future, it is our strong hope, these students will work like ambassadors in their regions.
Addressing the students, Joint Director IM Sciences, Dr Muhammad Mohsin Khan said that these fully-funded scholarships are a source of prosperity and would bring a vast difference in the lives of individuals and families of Fata region. And this initiative is a shield against the devastated hopes of the Fata population in such adverse literacy, poverty and geo-political situation.
Currently, the literacy rate in Fata is only 17.4 percent with a female literacy ratio of 3.0 percent only. We must solve our problems and there is a lot more to be done to explore other opportunities for our young generation such as internships, job opportunities and research facilities.
The huge gap between lower literacy rate and higher poverty rates makes a poor combination, which is barricading our social and economic development. As a nation it is our responsibility to use our resources for changing the present scenario into higher literacy and lower poverty rates.
Nazir Ahmad and Joint Director IM/Sciences Dr Muhammad Mohsin Khan congratulated all the scholarship holders and thanked the scholarships management team of U-Fata LDP and IM/Sciences Grants/Placement Department for organising such an important event for highlighting the need of initiating such development programme. Scholarship Co-ordinators U-Fata LDP, all co-ordinators IM/Sciences and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.
