Punjab Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh has urged the federal government to take immediate notice of continuous increase in the prices of fertilisers. Increase in the price of fertilisers was causing severe problems to the growers as crops of those growers were damaging who could not afford to buy expensive fertilisers.
"Ministry of Industries and Production should take strict notice of this. Companies should be asked to print prices of fertiliser on bags as it would help control the rising prices," Aulakh said while talking to media after meeting a delegation of growers at Agriculture Department here on Monday.
The Minister stated that there should be some justifiable mechanism to determine the prices of fertilisers. "DAP bag was being sold at Rs 1,950 during Rabi crop but suddenly its price has gone up," he said. Similarly, prices of urea fertiliser were also increased recently.
The situation needed to be controlled immediately otherwise it would have bad impact on national economy. "It is the responsibility of the government to control institutions supplying agricultural inputs so that no body could dare to overcharge growers," he said.
Aulkah maintained that farmers of Punjab province were hard working and they grew record wheat last year. Welfare of farmers was the foremost priority of the PML-N government. "The chief minister is trying to promote agricultural activities in the province. A number of MoUs have been signed with Chinese and Turkish firms to introduce latest technology for increasing per acre yield," he said.
