Rates moved both ways on the local currency market on Tuesday as demand for dollars was matching with supply, money viewers said. On the interbank market the rupee was unchanged versus dollar for buying and selling at 84.60 and 84.65, they said.
In the second session of Asian trade yen rose broadly after sources said selected Chinese banks were ordered to raise their reserve ratios effective Tuesday. The dollar fell to 90.02 yen, pulling away from its intraday high of 90.56 yen. The dollar was last at 90.13 yen, down 0.2 percent on the day.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The US currency continued its climb in terms of the rupee, gaining 15 paisa for buying and selling at 86.15 and 86.25, dealers said. The rupee, however, recovered 40 paisa against euro for buying and selling at Rs 120.70 and Rs 121.20, they added.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee remained weak in relation to dollar in Lahore currency market on Tuesday. According to dealers, the dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling) against the same overnight values. In the wake of surge in its demand, the dollar showed strength and finally ended higher at Rs 86.30 and Rs 86.80 as its buying and selling rates, respectively, dealers said.
Similarly, the rupee also depreciated against pound sterling, which was traded at Rs 138.20 and Rs 139.00 on buying and selling counters, respectively, as compared to Rs 138.00 and Rs 138.60, dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar was plus by 50 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday. The dollar opened at Rs 86 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling) against last rate of Rs 85.50 (buying) and Rs 85.60 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 86 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.80 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling) against last rate of Rs 138 (buying) and Rs 138.10 (selling). It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 138.80 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling).
