Chairman of All Pakistan Motorcycle Spare Parts Imports and Dealers Association (APMSIDA), M Rehan Hanif, has urged the government to take appropriate measures at borders to curb smuggling of spare parts from China and other countries. Speaking at a meeting of the association, he said that several appeals were made in the past in this regard but all these appeals went unattended.
He said that smuggling of spare parts is on the increase and it has direct negative impart on local industry and revenue collection. He recalled that the association had suggested withdrawal of SRO 450 and additional duty of 17 percent, and reduction of customs duty from 35 percent to 20 percent. He expressed hope that with the implementation of these suggestions smuggling would come to an end and the government would get revenue through import of spare parts from legal channels.
