The UN Commission investigating the death of Benazir Bhutto has postponed its scheduled final visit to Pakistan due to security reasons. Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit confirmed the cancellation, saying that the team had put off its trip, and the new date had not been finalised.
The team was to arrive on Monday, February 1, but it cancelled its trip due to what the media reports suggested non-availability of proper accommodation and security reasons. Basit said that the visit of the team would be very soon to finalise its report.
Basit denied reports that there was any trouble for the team members in respect of their accommodation, and said that it was the responsibility and duty of the government to give foolproof security and other required facilities to the team members.
He said that the team had itself rescheduled the visit, and the next date would be set soon. The next visit would be final, and its report would be handed over to the government by the deadline of March 31, Basit added.
