An increase of 117.54 per cent in the export of vegetables and 68.69 per cent in fruits have been observed during the first half of the current fiscal year 2009-10. According to a report by the statistical department, during the period June 2009 to December 2009 about 0.292 metric tonne fruits of worth $116.11 million were exported whereas the same corresponding period of last year 0.179 metric tonne fruits of worth $68.83 were exported.
So, an increase of 68.69 per cent is observed during the current year. Similarly 0.141 metric tonne vegetables have been exported whereas last year only 63,000 metric tonne vegetables had been exported during the same time period with an increase of 117.54 per cent. On the other hand, the export of pulses has reduced during the period June to December 2009 with a ratio of 99.65 per cent.
