Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution tabled by opposition MPA, Mohsin Laghari, declaring that there would be no harm to Sindh or shortage of water in the province due to the construction of the proposed hydel power plant on Chashma-Jhelum Link Canal. The house also called for addressing the reservations of Sindh on the project.
Mohsim Laghair said that Punjab was harbinger of peace and believed in reconciliation, adding that recent NFC award was an ample example of it. During the session, Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal instructed the House Committee formed over the issue of plaza of Law Minister Rana Sanaullah to present its report within 30 days.
Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din, Leader of the Opposition and head of the Committee stated that they would work on the issue in the light of the findings of the Committee formed by Chief Minister Punjab. During the session, the house adopted six resolutions on different issues.
A resolution adopted by the House urged the Federal Government to make amendments to Anti Terrorist Act, so that people involved in child abuse could be booked and punished under the Act. The House on the occasion also urged the Federal Government to get the night packages of mobile companies ended, as these were affecting the performance of students and young people and affecting their morality.
Parliamentary Secretary of Local Governments and Community Development, Abdul Razak Dhiloon, answering queries of the members said that officials of the corporation and other relevant departments were carrying out the operation clean-up to remove encroachments on the main Sodiwal-Multan Road, Lahore.
To another query, he said that there were 144 Katchi Abadies in the provincial capital. He said that these Katchi Abadies were registered under the Act of 1992, adding giving proprietary right to them is the responsibility of Lahore Development Authority.
To yet another question Dhiloon said City District Government under Lahore Auction of Collection Rights, Rules 2003 had the authority to run stands at 32 main roads of Lahore. The session was later adjourned till Wednesday (today). Later talking to media, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Chief Secretary Javaid Mahmood had opted to go on leave on his own rather on instructions of anybody.
