All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has appreciated the government's prompt response to it's demand to ensure two days a week gas suspension to the textile industry in consonance with November 2, 2009 decision of the Cabinet Committee on Gas Load Management.
The Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Naveed Qamar, took the decision in response of an emergent meeting made by the Aptma, Punjab, Chairman Gohar Ejaz last week where the chairman pointed out that negation of the Cabinet Committee decision of uninterrupted five days a week supply of gas to the industry.
The Aptma Chairman had also pointed out that the industry was making huge losses besides heavy layoffs in the month of January alone, when the industry was provided with the gas supply only for 10 days. It impaired the capacity to produce, causing inability of the industry to meet financial and export obligations, especially, the Punjab based mills.
The Federal Minister had assured a prompt response in the meeting. The Aptma spokesman said that the federal minister's prompt response shows commitment of the government to resolve the energy-related issues of the textile industry on priority basis.
The spokesman said the SNGPL has placed the Gas Load Management Programme, based on five days supply and two days suspension in a week, on its website for equitable share for all regions. He expressed the hope that the SNGPL would revert to the normal supply of gas by February 15 that would help put textile industry back on full production to meet domestic and export market commitments.
It may be added that the gas supply to the textile industry this year remained suspended for approximately 30 days as against an average 75 days last year. The Aptma management has also appreciated the efforts made by the SNGPL authorities in reducing the gas load shedding period considerably this year.
