The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Wednesday directed Secretary Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to give comments on fee structure for admission in private medical colleges till 15th of this month. A three-member bench headed by Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan issued direction on a suo motu action taken by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on January 18.
The court had taken notice of the issue on an application filed by Assistant Professor of Mian Channu Government Degree College, Amjad Khan, seeking reduction in the private medical colleges' minimum fee from Rs 800,000 to Rs 500,000.
The directions had also been issued to medical colleges for furnishing para-wise comments on the application through the PMDC. In an earlier report submitted to the court, the PMDC had said it neither set fee structure for medical colleges nor involved in any related activity. However, it was in contact with the federal government for the rationalisation of fee structure of the private medical colleges.
