The Punjab Government has made foolproof arrangements for the holding of class 5th annual examination, being held throughout the province under the aegis of Punjab Examination Commission (PEC). PEC has arranged electronic marking of 5th grade annual examination and copied answers will be automatically detected. The purpose is to discourage rot method of learning and to promote understanding with broader perspective of the syllabus.
This was stated by Chairman Chief Minister's Task Force on Elementary Education, Raja Muhammad Anwar, while talking to invigilators and the examination staff, during his surprise inspection of various suburban schools of Raiwind Road and examination centres of Raja Jang in Kasur, on Wednesday. During his inspection, Raja Anwar also inquired about the standard of examination papers from the teaching staff and the students.
He informed that this examination is the biggest ever exercise, held by the Punjab Government, as 2.5 million students of private as well as public sector schools are taking part in it, for whom 10,500 exam centres have been set-up, where 1.7 lakh teachers, besides 3500 mobile inspectors, have been deputed, to ensure smooth holding and transparency in the examination.
Raja Anwar also informed that no examination or registration fee has been charged and all the expenses are borne by the government. With a view to promote transparency in the examination, it has been decided to get the answer sheets checked by another tehsil staff.
This is not a routine examination exercise, as the reason is to improve the intellectual understanding of the elementary classes. The portion of objective questions is therefore, kept 60 percent, while the 40 percent portion is subjective. On the occasion, Raja Anwar also warned the staff to ensure transparent holding of this examination as any one found guilty of cheating will be dealt with, accordingly.
The Punjab Government is striving hard to promote quality education to enable the students with poor economic background to bring a positive social change for their families. This is the real essence of democracy that all segments of society get equal treatment and no one is deprived, he added.
