The expansion of G8 to G20 is a conspiracy to weaken the United Nations as there is plan to control the world by this forum. Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, Pakistan Ambassador to the United Nations, Abdullah Hussain Haroon said it is a major move that would affect the world scenario and Pakistan should take up this issue very seriously.
He was of the view that the US plan to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan in 2011 will also affect the region especially Pakistan. He pointed out that the Democrats are not in favour of continuing US forces' presence in Afghanistan and want to finish this war as soon as possible. Actually, there is no hope of success in Afghanistan. The Americans are not optimistic about their success in Afghanistan. On the other hand, they are not in favour of Karzai government. The Karzai government is known as a weak and corrupt government. There is no good governance in Afghanistan. Any change in near future seems impossible. The interest of international community in this war is also weakening and they are not agreeing to send more forces there.
In this situation, Pakistan is being targeted. He said Pakistan has done more than any other country in the war against terror. "We have faced attacks on our army, rangers and police, in which many officials have been killed," he added.
On the other hand, the drone attacks further deteriorate the situation, he said and added that he would raise the issue pertaining to the drone attacks in the United Nations whenever asked by the government.
He was of the view that the UN forces should replace Nato forces after their withdrawal from Afghanistan.
He said Pakistan should have a clear policy regarding America's direct talks with the Taliban. Regarding the Benazir assassination case investigation by the UN Commission, Haroon said the commission was not ready to visit Pakistan due to security concerns. "I am leaving for the US soon to convince the commission to visit Pakistan and to start probe into this very important case," he said.
He pointed out that the commission was given three-month extension till March 31, 2010 to complete its report.
