US wheat futures fell on Friday as a firm US dollar and weak crude oil market weighed on prices amid plentiful global supplies, traders said. The benchmark Chicago Board of Trade soft red winter wheat contract fell 2-1/2 cents to $4.73-1/4 a bushel. Funds sold 2,000 lots. At the Kansas City Board of Trade, hard red winter wheat for March delivery slid 4 cents at $4.84-1/2 a bushel.
Minneapolis Grain Exchange spring wheat for March delivery closed down 3/4 cents at $5.01 a bushel. Statistics Canada shows Canadian December 31 wheat stocks smaller than expected. France increases soft wheat area estimate to nearly 4 percent above last year's level. Bangladesh to issue 100,000 tonne wheat import tender to replenish food reserves.
Taiwan to tender for 40,950 tonnes of US wheat next Thursday. Thailand buys 25,000 tonnes of Australian hard wheat this week. Overall good crop weather continues in the US winter wheat region with much of the crop protected from cold weather by a blanket of snow which also is adding to soil moisture reserves.
