Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday rejected any progress on the Kashmir issue, with India, through backdoor diplomacy during the Musharraf regime. Talking to media here, he said that there is no record of such secret talks with the Foreign Office about such backdoor diplomacy during the previous government.
"There must be any record of such clandestine talks, but there is no proof of such secret diplomacy with the Foreign Office", he added. Qureshi said that Pakistan wants to resume of talks with India on Kashmir from the level where they were broken in July 2008.
He said that discussions should be started with positive thinking to take them to a logical end, and added that a group in India is engaged in issuing negative statements to derail the efforts for peace process.
The Foreign Minister said that issues could not be settled through statements at media, which needs comprehensive talks with clean minds. He said that the importance of secret dialogues could not be undermined but formal and open discussion is key to settle the issues. "That's why the Government of Pakistan has been demanding for resuming bilateral talks," he added. At the same time, Qureshi said, there is also pressure on India from certain quarters to resume the stalled talks and India has also realised that talks are crucial for bringing peace in the region.
He said that the proposal from India to resume the stalled composite dialogue process is actually a support for Pakistan 's point of view. The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan wants to have peaceful solutions of all key issues with India including issue of Jammu and Kashmir . Qureshi said that Pakistan is playing key role in the fight against terror and peace in Afghanistan is in better strategic interest of the region.
