NWFP Hoc-key Association Sunday paid rich tribute to its president in a condolence meeting held here Sunday at Garrison club with Chairman NWFP Hockey Association Muhammad Saeed Khan in the chair. President and MPA from Dera Ismail Khan Major Latifullah Khan Alizai (retd) died on Saturday of cardiac arrest.
His sudden death was great loss to the sports circle of NWFP, the meeting while paying rich tribute said. Late Alizai also remained skipper of the Atchison College hockey team in which Olympians of the past were members. In his short-tenure of three-month as President NWFP Hockey Association, he announced establishment of hockey academies all across the province for Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 teams.
The meeting passed a unanimous resolution in which they lauded the services of late Alizai for the promotion of sports in Dera Ismail Khan in general and hockey in particular. The meeting also decided to hold a condolence reference shortly to pay homage to late Latifullah Alizai wherein representatives from all the districts affiliated with NWFP Hockey Association would be invited to take part.
Speaking on this occasion, Muhammad Saeed Khan, who is also the Vice President of Pakistan Hockey Federation, expressed his great sorrow over the sad demise of the late Alizai. It was shocking news for all of us not only in the hockey circle, but also in Dera Ismail Khan sports circle, he expressed. "We have lost a great fellow who had zeal and spirit for the promotion of hockey in the province. It was late Alizai, who in his first speech after being elected as President NWFP Hockey Association, said that he would pay all finances for the promotion of hockey and holding of hockey events all across the province," Saeed Khan said while quoting late Alizai.
Later, the meeting offered Fateha for the departed soul and expressed their deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Alizai. The meeting prayed to Allah Almighty to shower His blessings on the departed soul and grant fortitude to the bereaved family. Secretary NWFP Hockey Association Syed Zahir Shah, President Peshawar District Hockey Association Hidayatullah Khan, Secretary Ayaz Muhammad, world panel hockey umpire Faiz Muhammad Faizi, Members of the Executive Council, ex international hockey umpire Muhammad Asif Orakzai, President of the NWFP Boxing Association Waqar Maroof and other office-bearers were also present in the condolence meeting.
