Residents of Tank while blaming Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) for supplying contaminated drinking water have invited the attention of National Institute of Health Pakistan to take notice of the matter besides taking stern action against those responsible for the negligence.
Talking to APP locals have called upon Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) to conduct survey and suggest prompt action against Municipal Committee Tank for supplying highly unhygienic water to citizens. People also largely complaints about increasing cases of abdominal diseases across the area.
"The matter of grave concern is that despite number of reports and indications by the media neither the local nor the provincial authorities took into account core issue of 100 percent polluted water for which Rs 100 per month is extorted by TMA ",residents said.
They blamed local administration for not replacing the decades old main water supply pipeline. It is worth mentioning here that the pre-partition pipes have become stuck up with sediment or broken which further aggravates problems. It has been observed that on certain occasions potable water intermingles with sewerage water owing to these broken pipes besides going unnoticed by the concerned quarters.
Health experts are of the view that this bacterial contamination is causing enormous fatal diseases like Hepatitis to the consumers. A careful survey in Tank reveals that Hepatitis "B" & "C" is on the rise. A painful matter is that despite well aware of the deplorable situation people representatives are silent in this regard.
The government, according to official reports so far spent millions on the rectification of the matter but of no avail as the city remains always in the grip of protests against the substandard and shortage of potable water. Residents have called upon the National Institute of Health Pakistan to take measures for improving the substandard water supply system in Tank as well as make ensure good quality of drinking water.
