The Senate Standing Committee on Interior will take up the case pertaining to Daewoo hostess rape in Sialkot in its next meeting, said chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator Talha Mehmood. While addressing the participants of a protest demonstration against the rape of Daewoo hostess and recent spate of crimes against women and children here on Wednesday he said that the Ministry of Interior would consult all the concerned high ups and punish the culprits.
He said that being a Muslim state it is our prime responsibility to provide full protection to out sisters, daughters, mothers and wives. He said that our religion and society dose not permit such evil acts. The protest demonstration was lead by the Senator Nilofar Bakhtiar and attended by a number of parliamentarians, senators and representatives of civil societies and students.
Talha Mehmood said that all out efforts would be made to provide full justice to the rape victim making sure that no such incident takes place in the country. He said that such incidents not only harm the image of our country but also make our women feel insecure.
Speaking on the occasion Nilofar Bakhtiar said that it is matter of sad concern that presently the Ministry of Women Development has no minister. She said that on one side the PPP government claims providing justice and protection to the women of Pakistan on its agenda while on the other the ministry that is responsible for all this is being ignored by the government.
She showed concern over the sudden disappearance of the rape victim after the suo moto action taken by the Lahore High Court. She further said that it is a good sign that all male and female parliamentarians from all the parties' and from three provinces got together to show solidarity and raise their voice against this brutal act.
The representatives of the Women's Action Forum said that they are shocked to learn, and strongly condemn, yet another case of brutality and violence against women with reference to kidnapping and rape of the Daewoo Bus hostess in Sialkot.
This is first incident of its kind since Daewoo launched its service in the 90s. The apathy shown by the Daewoo van driver and security guard accompanying the unfortunate women to her residence was said to actually facilitate her kidnapping and subsequent rape as neither of them challenged the kidnapper when the helpless women was being dragged away.
They further said that the recent spate of violence against women like the 12 years old housemaid Shazia who was brutally tortured and beaten to death by her employer in Lahore, and horrifying case of the 4 years old girl-child raped in Faisalabad, should send a tremor across the country and make all realise that we and our children are not safe too.
