Turkish Health Ministry would be recommended to sign an agreement with the University of Health Sciences (UHS) for the training of Turkish doctors and nurses here. Director General Health Insurance Social Security Institution, Ankara, Dr Hassan Cagil stated this, while talking to UHS vice-chancellor Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar during his visit to the University on Thursday.
The four-member delegation of senior officials of Turkish Health Department comprising Dr Selami Kilic Deputy Director of Ankara Provincial Health Directorate, Dr Murat Ozturk Deputy Director of Provincial Health Directorate, Health Insurance Social Security Institution, Ankara, Dr Hassan Cagil and Faith Karakas from Refik Saydam Hygiene Centre is on a five-day visit to Lahore, as a follow up of the visit of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to Turkey last month.
The delegation remained with Vice Chancellor of UHS for well over an hour and discussed ways and means of co-operation between medical institutions of the two brotherly countries. The meeting also stressed the need for expediting sector- specific delegations between the two countries. UHS vice-chancellor Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar gave a detailed briefing to the delegation regarding medical education reforms in the province and also identified areas of possible co-operation.
He said Pak-Turkish friendship was deep-rooted and enduring. He added that Turkey and Pakistan had always had a similar stance on international issues and people of Pakistan would always remember the historic role played by their Turkish brethren for the relief and assistance for the earthquake victims.
He maintained that both countries could co-operate in academics and medical research, especially the training of nurses, allied health professionals and bio-medical engineers. Turkish delegation head Dr Hassan Cagil endorsed the views of UHS vice-chancellor and appreciated the efforts of the UHS for the promotion of medical education in Punjab.
