Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam termed the public co-operation a key to curb crime and improve performance of the police. Elaborating the police strategy against the anti-social elements, the IGP said in a statement that every possible effort was being made to curb crime through the co-operation of community.
" It is a good omen that the respected citizens have come forward to pinpoint criminals and assist police in curbing the crime," he added. Kaleem Imam said that Islamabad police is striving to inculcate friendly police ecology in the Capital and have devised a strategy to counter the challenge of terrorism.
" Following this strategy, citizens are included in campaign against criminals and those helping the police are awarded special prizes," he said adding that several citizens were awarded during the last two months for their co-operation with the police. Several citizens including Saeed Ahmed Abbassi, Muhammad Ilyas, Sajad Hussain Shah, Tahir Ashraf, Shehzad Hussain, Muhammad Faheem and Muhammad Ilyas and others were awarded by the Capital police during the last two months. On the basis of information provided by the citizens, he said that several criminals had been arrested and terrorist attempts were thwarted.
Drug pushers and bootleggers were arrested on tips off provided by respected citizens, during the last two months and a cache of weapons was also seized. The IGP also appealed the other citizens to come forward so that Capital could be made a peaceful city through friendly relation between police and public. The role of public is very much important for the success of any institution and Islamabad police would also achieve its target of friendly policing through co-operation of community, the IGP maintained.
"Islamabad police is the pioneer department giving the slogan of friendly policing and this relation between police and public would be further strengthened in the coming days," he said adding that those providing the information to Islamabad police would also be awarded in future. Our cities and country could be made more secure if this co-operation and trust remain continue on permanent basis, Kaleem Imam added.
