The Sindh government is negotiating with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for surveying the wild animals in the province. The minority members in Sindh Assembly have demanded of the provincial government to impose ban on wine shops during the Christian fasting days starting from February 17.
Wednesday's sitting was adjourned by Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro when Law Minister Ayaz Soomro requested that many of the lawmakers were set to leave for Hyderabad to condole the demise of Benazir Bhutto's only cousin, Imdad Ali Bhutto.
On this, the Speaker had to defer till Friday (today) an adjournment motion noticed by Nusrat Seher Abbasi of PML-F and the presentation of a Preliminary Report of Sindh Assembly's Standing Committee on Irrigation and Power on frequent power failures especially on 17th and 18th June (2009) in the house.
Earlier, responding to a supplementary question of NPP's Arif Mustafa Jatoi, the provincial minister said the provincial government had no sufficient funds to finance the costly affair. "We are in talks with the WWF and ICUN and have requested them to survey the wild animals in Sindh," Minister for Wildlife Daya Ram told Sindh Assembly during the Question Hour on Wednesday. Earlier, on a point of order Stephen Asif Peter of MQM lauded the Sindh government for imposing ban on wine shops during the holy month of Ramadan, saying the same should be the case during the forthcoming 40-day Christian fasting period.
The house appreciated Peter's demand through desk-thumping. Also through desk-thumping the house also lauded a Pakistani athlete Naseem Hameed for wining a gold medal and the title of the fastest woman of Asia in the Safe Games. The house was positive when an MQM member demanded of the government to give the title of "national hero" to Naseem, who is the resident of PS 124, Korangi Karachi.
A treasury member also expressed his grave concern over the existence of weapons in the universities and hostels on which Soormo came up with an assurance that the said educational sites would soon be cleared from the arms. He said the PPP government would never appreciate two students organisations engaged in fighting for reasons. "In a day or two you would see that your suggestion is executed," he said.
Revenue Minister Jam Mehtab Dhar rejected the claim when Nusrat Seher Abbasi of PML-F said Punjab was occupying thousands of acres of land in Ghotky. The opposition member said whereas the Sindh government was not wary of the situation, the Punjab province was depriving it of its land as well as water share.
