DCO Saeed Wahlah has directed to mobilise the joint efforts to make the population welfare programme a success for strengthening the trend of faamily planning in the society. He was presiding over a meeting of District Population Welfare Technical and Co-ordination Committee held here on Saturday in which monthly progress of local population welfare department was reviewed.
The DCO advised that the comprehensive plan should be devised in collaboration with health department for raising awareness among the married couple as per the co-ordinated strategy. He expressed his reservation on the statistics performance of field staff and welfare centre of population welfare department and urged that there should not be any disturbance and hindrance in the activities of population welfare programme.
He urged to gear up the efforts to make the government measures result-oriented in connection with keeping balance between population and resources by promoting the trend of small family. The DCO directed that various programmes should be organised from markaz to district level for making people aware about welfare programmes and activities, including baby shows, workshops, seminars, exhibition, medical camps and other events should be arranged besides distribution of informative posters and pamphlets.
DCO directed the officers of population department to get the support of health department and PRSP for arranging the different events. EDO Health Captain Dr Muhammad Siddique and District Support Officer (DSO), PRSP, Syed Irshad Hussain assured all out co-operation from their department in the population welfare programme.
Among others the meeting was attended by DOC Liaqat Ali Chatha, District Health Officer (DHO) Rana Imran Ali Khan District Population Officer (DPO) Talat Mehmud Aftab, SMO Dr Adeeba Anwar and District Demographer officer (DDO) Mehwish Badar. Meanwhile, the DCO Saeed Wahlah had directed the raiding teams to eliminate the illegal and unauthorised sugarcane kandas (weigh bridges) in the district as per direction of the Punjab government for safeguarding the sugarcane growers from the exploitation of middlemen.
Presiding over a meeting in this regard, he reviewed the daily performance of the raiding teams and directed to get the secret reports regarding establishment of unlicensed and unauthorised Kandas and successful operations should be conducted to eradicate them.
Reviewing the action taken by the raiding teams against the unauthorised and unlawful purchase of sugarcane, he appreciated the performance of raiding teams and said it should be kept up. The meeting was informed that 22 FIRs had been registered against the owners of illegal kandas in the different areas of the district while six persons were arrested involved in this illegal practice besides confiscating the weigh instruments from 32 sites.
