Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, has said that Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms is being used for personal interest of the rulers and the PML-N will not become part of it. He expressed these views on the floor of the House.
"For the last three days, the proceeding of the Committee is being bulldozed. The consensus is lacking in last meetings of the committee. We will never be blackmailed by the committee," he said. About judges' issue, Nisar said that the government was violating the constitution in appointment of judges.
He said that the Prime Minister had made commitment on the floor of the House that the appointment of judges would be made according to constitution. But two months have passed; the government did not appoint judges. Nisar said that President Asif Ali Zaradri was Chancellor of NUML University but the GHQ summoned Registrar Brigadier Baitullah Ranjha (Retd) and took resignation from him. The FIR should be lodged against Ranjha, he urged.
"How the president is Chancellor of the university, as he has no involvement in this institution. Army has nothing to do with this educational institution. There is a dire need to review the charter of NUML and National Assembly's Standing Committee on Education would take up this issue seriously and revisit the criteria of the appointments," he said.
"The government talks of reconciliation where it has interest. The Kibla (direction) of the government is Washington, but the PML-N is satisfied with its Kibla (direction), the opposition leader said. While responding to the opposition Leader, Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khurshid Shah said that Raza Rabbani, who is Chairman of the Committee, could better answer the objections raised by Opposition Leader.
"As far as the issue of judges is concerned, we are not in hurry in this regard," he said, adding it should be resolved unanimously. He said that the President took resignation from Brigadier Ranjha. He added that the PPP government had removed military officers from 57 civil departments.
"The government has adopted the policy of reconciliation. We don't want fight with opposition. It is on record the government did not make any case of political victimisation. We should learn form the history and accept the decisions of the parliament," he said. He said that it was decided in the House Advisory committee that the opposition would bring resolution, which would be passed unanimously but it did not acted accordingly. He said that the Kibla (direction) of PPP-government is towards the people of Pakistan.
