Habib Bank Limited and Employers Federation of Pakistan recently organised an industry awareness seminar which was attended by CEOs/CFOs of various companies. The presentation was made on the following topics:
-- What is Riba? (Presenter Mufti Yahya Asim Shariah Advisor HBL), Does modern day Islamic Banking meet the needs of today's business? (Faizan Memon) and Is Islamic Banking really Islamic? (Dr Ejaz Samdani).
Mohammad Aslam Head Islamic Banking HBL welcomed the participants on behalf of Zakir Mahmood President and CEO HBL who was abroad in connection with World Economic Forum. He also thanked Haji Muhammad Javed President EFP for joining hands with HBL to promote greater understanding about Islamic Banking and to provide the opportunities to the stakeholders to discuss their concerns and ask questions from the Shariah Advisors about Islamic Banking products and services. He further stated that he has instructions from Zakir Mahmood to introduce real Islamic Banking in HBL.
HBL shall be opening/converting about 20 branches and establishing about 50 Islamic Banking windows in 2010 throughout country. We shall also endeavour to arrange seminars for staff, clients and Shariah Advisors to promote greater understanding and build spirit of co-operation among Islamic Banking industry. -PR
