Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza has directed the police to take positive measures to facilitate the law abiding and peaceful citizens at the police level so that citizens who do not show interest in getting a FIR registered, may prove helpful in weeding out the crimes.
He stated this while issuing directives after taking notice of cases of street crimes in all the small and big cities of the province. He directed the IGP to chalk out an effective strategy for carrying out a crackdown against the criminal and anti-social elements at important highways, streets, 'mohallahs', commercial centres and other places in Karachi, Sukkur and Hyderabad regions.
For this purpose, he maintained, activated and moving raiding teams be formed at the regional, district, towns and police station levels to provide security and protection to the life and property of people. He observed that it was the responsibility of the police to arrest the culprits involved in street crimes, get them punished and provide complete protection to the citizens.
However, the Home Minister pointed, it was imperative to weed out the black sheeps and corrupt personnel from the police' ranks so as to achieve assured success. Therefore, there should be speedy inquiry and scrutiny on complaints received against police and the purging process be made meaningful.
