Faiz's poetry is a tool of resistance against the colonial and post-colonial legacy of control, exploitation and denial of rights to the messes, said Fakhar Zaman, Chairman, Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) in his message on the occasion of 99th birthday anniversary of renowned poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
Chairman PAL said Faiz Ahmed Faiz poetry is not only a source of inspiration, but also a beacon of light for the oppressed section of society. "There is a need of research on Faiz's thought and concepts, adding that year 2011 will be declared as Faiz's year and on this occasion, PAL will hold ceremonies, seminars and conferences throughout the world about the life and works of great poet Faiz," he said.
Zaman said that in this connection, documentaries, dramas and program would be organised. In this year, two international conferences pertaining to Faiz Ahmed Faiz birth and death anniversaries will be organised in which President of Pakistan and Prime Minister of Pakistan will also be invited, he added.
Elaborating further, he said that Progressive Writers Movement would co-operate with PAL in this regard. Moreover, he said a committee on national level named as "Faiz Centenary Committee" has been formulated in which writers and intellectuals are given membership.
The committee will work on central and provincial level to spread the message of Faiz's poetry world-wide and in this regard, international conference in Sweden, Britain and Canada will also be held. He said that Faiz's poetry would be included in Syllabus, and memorial tickets on Faiz will be issued. Pakistan Mission abroad will be asked to celebrate Faiz's year in a befitting manner.-PR
