University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz has said the university students are the ambassadors of their alma mater and they must learn and strive to excel in the practical field for the strengthening of livestock, poultry, dairy and agriculture sectors leading to boosting up country's economy as well as poverty alleviation.
Addressing DVM final semester students at the concluding ceremony of five-day "Orientation Workshop on Internship Programme (2010) arranged by varsity's faculty of veterinary sciences, the vice-chancellor stressed that the DVM students should equip themselves with practical knowledge and hands-on training, while doing their internship in the national and multinational organisations.
He said the UVAS students must emerge as strong professionals and added, "Sky is the limit to accumulate achievements in the veterinary and animal sciences". In this era of competition and problems, VC Professor Nawaz said the veterinarians should offer their qualified services with a sense of duty and dedication to the farmers of the country.
He said the veterinarians' knowledge and practicality was direly needed to upgrade the living standards of farmers, who were grappling with poverty coupled with little know-how about modern livestock farming practices. The UVAS is playing its effective role in the leather, poultry, meat and dairy technology, he added.
Addressing on the occasion, former vice-chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, Bashir A Sheikh lauded the efforts of the UVAS and acknowledged that the UVAS was now facilitating the private sector through its advancement of studies, knowledge and transformation of technology.
He urged the students to enlighten the future of country through their hard work and dedication in their related fields. Earlier, Professor Dr Nasim Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences (FVS) gave briefing about the procedure of the internship of DVM final semester students.
He said the objective of the internship programme was to provide the pre-service field training to students in the area of veterinary medicine, animal husbandry and allied fields. Professor Ahmad also announced that a visiting monitoring team would be constituted to check the presence of internees in 44 organisations, where they would be sent for four-month internship.
