As many as 705,000 children under 5 years of age will be administered polio drops in a three-day anti-polio campaign to be started here from Monday (today). Monitoring of this campaign will be carried out on February 18 and 19 and strict action will be taken against the staff found involved in the negligence.
This was stated by District Health Officer, Dr Khalid Randhawa in a meeting on Sunday. He said representatives of teaching hospitals, education and welfare departments besides NGOs will be involved in the campaign.
While briefing the meeting, the health officer informed that 1,339 teams have been constituted which will administer the polio drops and give vitamin A capsules to the children at their doorsteps. Moreover, he maintained, 256 vaccination centres will also be set up in Health Unit, Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals and Teaching Hospitals while 86 mobile teams will administer the drops and give tables in public parks, railways stations, wagon stands and airports.
Randhawa further said the officials of education and health departments have been assigned the duties. Also, Log Area Commander will be requested to involve army jawans in the campaign in Cantt area, he added.
