A French pilot and his 63-year-old female passenger escaped what looked like certain death by leaping out of a helicopter in mid-flight, France Info radio reported Monday. The two were flying to the city of Valence Sunday, over mid-sized mountains, when a dense fog suddenly cut the pilot's vision to practically zero, forcing him to reduce altitude and speed.
However, it soon became apparent to the 59-year-old pilot that he was flying blind and that a collision with a mountain was inevitable. So he forced his passenger to jump, and then took the leap himself. Moments later the helicopter crashed into the side of Mount Montue. Fortunately for the two daredevils, their fall was cushioned by deep snow, and they escaped with bruises and scratches. They were taken to a local hospital for observation.
