In Pakistan, more than 3 out of 4 Pakistanis (89 percent) have opposed the decision of French parliament on prohibiting face covering of Muslim women, while only 2 percent favoured it and 9 percent were unsure, said a Gallup poll result. Recently, covering face in France for Muslim women has become problematic and now French parliament has passed an order to ban face covering.
According to a survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country, people were asked: "French parliament has imposed restriction over wearing veil by Muslim women. Do you think this decision of the government of France is right or wrong?"
Eighty-nine percent (89 percent) believe the decision is wrong while only 2 percent support the government of France in banning face-covering. The remaining 9 percent were unsure, or gave no response. The findings of the survey show no significant difference in opinion of people from across various demographics. The survey was carried out among a sample of 2761 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country during January 2010. Error margin is estimated to he approximately ± 2-3 percent at 95 percent confidence level.
