The Ministry of Culture is in process of carrying out preservation and conservation of 35 important archaeological sites and monuments countrywide. The work is being done under 14 development projects through the Department of Archaeology and Museums at a cost of Rs 211 million, earmarked during the current fiscal year.
Official sources told APP here Friday said there are around 2986 sites and monuments discovered and documented through surveys conducted by the Ministry of Culture. The last archaeological survey was conducted three years ago with the aim to record, collect data and document all archaeological sites and monuments for their protection.
The implementation of the said survey reports are going to be carried out on the completion of the detailed study and research work of the archaeological data collected during these surveys and preparation of a comprehensive master plan by the Department of Archaeology and Museums for developing the sites.
