Nine retired professors appointed as Professor Emeritus

The Punjab University Syndicate which met under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran approved the appointments of nine retired varsity professors as Professor Emeritus in recognition of their established scholarship and services to university education so that they could make vital contribution to the academic life of the university. The 1682nd meeting of the PU Syndicate was held here on Monday.
The names of the newly-appointed Professor Emeritus are Professor Dr Khawaja Muhammad Zakriya (Urdu), Professor Dr A R Shakoori (Zoology), Professor Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi (Political Science), Professor Dr Muhammad Saleem (High Energy Physics), Professor Dr Syed Muhammad Akram Shah (Persian), Professor DR Javed Iqbal (Botany), Professor Dr S Razi Abbas Shamsi (Botany), Professor Dr Khawaja Amjad Saeed (Business Administration) and Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz Chaudhry (Geology).
The meeting also approved the appointment of Khawaja Imran Nazir MPA and Principal Postgraduate College for Girls Madina Town Faisalabad Abida Fayyaz as Members Hall Council. Contractual appointment of 68 teachers for three-years period in the light of recommendations of various heads of teaching departments was also approved in the meeting.
The appointment of former Chief Secretary Punjab Pervez Masud and former Federal Secretary Mukhtar Masood as Members of the Selection Board was also approved in the meeting. The Syndicate further gave its approval to the creation of two new posts of Professors in the central pool and their transfer to the Institute of Communication Studies and Oriental College with designation as 'Professor Miskeen Ali Hijazi Chair' and 'Rumi Chair for Turkish Language and Culture', respectively.
The Syndicate also approved the nomination of Principal College of Art and Design Professor Rahat Naveed Masud and Director Centre for High Energy Physics Professor Dr Khawaja Haris Rashid as Members of the University Oriental College Committee for a period of two years.
The meeting also gave its final approval to the recommendations of Academic Council made at its meeting held on 08-06-2009 and 26-10-2009. Earlier, at the outset of the meeting, the Syndicate confirmed the proceedings of 1681st meeting of the Syndicate held on 31st December 2009.
