A total of 2,512 Pakistani nationals are in prison in nine countries, said a report submitted by the Foreign Office with Supreme Court. The report was submitted by the concerned Office on the directive of the apex Court, which is seized with hearing of a number of missing persons cases.
According to lists, 189 nationals are held in Afghanistan, 475 in United Kingdom, 106 in the United States, 544 in Saudi Arabia (including 170 in Jeddah, 135 in Makkah, 142 in Madina Munawra and 578 in Riadh), 366 in Kuwait, 45 in Bahrain, 69 in Abu Dhabi (UAE), 54 in Qatar and 86 in Iran.
The lists also contained names and addresses of the accused, nature of crimes and nature of sentences. The Supreme Court last month had asked the Foreign Office to provide the details of Pakistani expatriates languishing in jails abroad, which might help in tracing certain identical missing persons.
