Bulls dominated on the currency market on Thursday as the rupee posted fresh gains due to slight improvement in the supply of the greenback, exports said. On the interbank market the rupee recovered more 10 paisa versus dollar for buying at 84.90 and gained 11 paisa for selling at 84.94 in process of trading, they said.
During the fourth Asian trade euro eased against dollar on Thursday ahead of a European Central Bank meeting but retained some support as investors encouraged by Greece's latest austerity measures cut some of their record short positions in the single currency. The euro was dragged down by its fall against yen as short-term players sold higher-yielding currencies after Asian stocks faltered and prompted investors to trim riskier positions, traders said. That move also pushed dollar to a three-month low against yen.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee appreciated by 30 paisa against dollar for buying and selling at 84.90 and 85.10, dealers said. The rupee continued its depreciation versus euro shedding 50 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 115.35 and Rs 115.85, they added.
