Hamdard University on Friday awarded degrees to 235 successful students in two sessions of two-day long 14th convocation of the university. Of them, seven students topped and won gold medals. Oath taking ceremony of medical graduates and BDS graduates of Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (HMS) was also held during the session.
Hamdard University awarded gold medals to the five students while 'Hakim Mohammed Said gold medals' were awarded to two students on their best academic performances. In the first session, 53 degrees of Bachelor of Medicine (BoM) and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), 64 degrees of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and 65 degrees of Bachelor of Engineering (Textile Engineering) were distributed.
While, during the second session, one PhD degree was awarded to Rais Ahmed Samdani, while five degrees of MPhil in social sciences, 35 Mphil in Eastern Medicine were also distributed along with five MA degrees of Education. Moreover, 33 degrees of Bachelor of Eastern, four BEMS condensed course, 28 Bachelor of Law and 42 BBA degrees were given away to the successful ones.
Presenting report on university performance, Vice Chancellor Hamdard University Professor Dr Nasim A Khan said the university had more than 32 highly experienced PhD faculty members, 36 masters of Philosophy, 56 engineers, 50 scientists and pharmacists, 35 MBAs and more than 20 lawyers as faculty members.
He reminded the university had recently joined hands with Northern Consortium of United Kingdom, comprising of 11 universities, including several Russell Group universities to prepare the students to face the rapidly changing environment and meet the future challenges successfully.
He said that Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry had attracted 37 Saudi students boosting international dimension of the university. Our faculty members assisted other institutes as well like CPSP, Baqai Medical University (BMU), Ziauddin Medical University (ZMU) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST), he added.
Speaking on the occasion as a chief guest, Chancellor Hamdard University Senator SM Zafar said, "Our older generations had failed as we had not delivered what the nation wanted and expected and now all the hopes are attached with the new generation." Founding chancellor of the university, Hakim Mohammed Said dreamed high as a result Madinat al-Hikmah and Hamdard University came into being, he added.
"He was prolific writer, and though he grew old he never ceased to learn and write," he said. Offering vote of thanks to the participants of both the sessions, President Hamdard Foundation Pakistan Sadia Rashid advised the successful candidates that they should not forget mission of founding chancellor to serve the nation and humanity. Besides educationists, scholars, members of Shura Hamdard, distinguished guest, parents and students and a large number of participants attend the convocation.
