The National Assembly Standing Committee on Health taking serious notice of rapid increase in prices of medicines has directed the Ministry of Health to devise a policy to control surge in prices. The standing committee met under the chairmanship of Dr Nadeem Ehsan, MNA to discuss the Tibbe-e-Unani, Ayurvedic, Homeopathic herbal and other non-Allopathic Medicine Bill 2008 and Medical devices Bill 2008.
The committee also expressed its concern over the import of sub-standard AD syringes from Abu Dhabi Medical Devices and directed the ministry to probe into the matters and report the committee in its meeting. The committee discussed the bill clause by clause. It considered the view point of all concerned stakeholders and proposed several amendments on the bill.
Thereafter, the committee unanimously recommended that the bill as amended by the committee may be passed. However, the committee deferred the Medical Devices Bill 2008 till its next meeting. The meeting was attended by Yasmeen Rehman MNA, Dr Mahreen Razaque Bhutto, Begum Hasnain, Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro, Syed Muhammad Saqlain Bukhari, Dr Ghulam Haider Samego, Begum Shahnaz Sheikh, Mazhar Hayat Khan and Dr Attiya Inayatullah.
