Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that we are promoting such culture in the province again where not only the welfare projects should be completed on time and but resolution of peoples problems and provision of civic amenities should also be ensured.
The role of commissioners in promoting this culture is of great importance and they should leave no stone unturned in implementing welfare programmes, elimination of 'Qabza Mafia', corruption and resolution of problems of the people by making service to the people their motto, he added. He was addressing Commissioners' Conference at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here Saturday. Chief Secretary, Secretary Local Government and Secretary Finance attended the conference.
The Chief Minister said that rapid development of the province and resolution of problems of the common man was their agenda and all resources were being utilised for its completion. He said that timely completion of development projects in a transparent manner and provision of benefits of these projects to the people as early as possible should be top priority of the commissioners.
He said that the condition of cities had deteriorated due to corruption and delay in the development projects in the previous system and garbage was seen everywhere due to which people were facing great difficulties. He said that the tradition of 1998 with regard to transparency in development projects and their timely completion was being followed and quality work in the project of Danish schools in Bahawalpur division, Lahore Ring Road Package-6 and Park & Ride and other projects were worth mentioning.
He said that elimination of corruption in development projects should be ensured at all cost so that every penny of the people could be spent on their welfare. He said that the commissioners should restore that system again in which people's problems could be solved and they could also earn blessings of Almighty Allah by serving the people. He directed commissioners and DCOs to hold open kutcheris regularly for resolution of problems of the peoples and evolve such an effective monitoring system in this regard so that problems of the common man could be solved at his doorstep.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government had started a revolutionary programme of 'Sasti Roti' for the deprived segment of the society of the province. He said that all development would be of no use if they would not eliminate poverty.
He said that the Sasti Roti programme was going on successfully and commissioners should constitute committees in their respective divisions and districts for further expanding this programme in which service-spirited and kind-hearted people should be included without any political affiliation. He directed that solid measures should be taken for checking cattle and water theft and improvement of basic and rural health centers.
He said that religious harmony and brotherhood should be promoted in the province and strict action should be taken against the persons involved in violation of wall chalking law. He said that young generation was their precious asset and keeping them away from ills and evils was their national obligation. He said that special attention should be paid on elimination of drug trafficking and other social evils.
He directed stern action against Qabza Mafia without any discrimination so that no one should dare to usurp the rights of the poor. He said that like Green Tractor Scheme, transparent system should also be adopted in distribution of government land among land less farmers, veterinary graduates and 5-marla Jinnah Abadi Scheme. He said that new local government system would solve people's problems at their doorsteps and there would be a stern accountability system in it.
He said that now it was the responsibility of all commissioners and DCOs to play their role for provision of basic facilities to the people, resolution of their problems and timely completion of development projects and become the Khadim of the people in real sense.
