The 4th Gem Bazaar has been started here from Saturday under the auspices of Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) with the inauguration from Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani, Secretary Mines and Minerals Balochistan.
The PGJDC spokesman informed that organising of 4th Gem Bazaar in Quetta showed PGJDC's commitment for consistent efforts to promote Pakistani Gemstone sector and also to provide a lucrative opportunity and platform for the buyers and sellers of gemstones and mineral specimen under one roof in secured environment.
The interested buyers will be exposed to quality products on competitive prices, which will add tangible value to their business endeavours, he said and added 35 exhibitors have displayed their gemstones and mineral specimen for the interested buyers.
A variety of gemstones and mineral specimen including precious and semi precious gemstones from Balochistan and other parts of the country including Gilgit Baltistan, Swat, etc are displayed in the Gem Bazaar, he said and added that these gemstones include emerald, peridot, ruby, sapphire, topaz and many other precious semi precious gemstones.
The spokesman said that Balochistan is one of the richest regions in the world in terms of variety of minerals. Gemstones reserves in the province and their business has huge potential, he said and added that Gem Bazaar is just the right platform for the trade to flourish in the province leading to increase in exports from Pakistan.
Pakistan is blessed with a lot of precious and semi precious stones, which after value addition and can earn millions of dollars in countries foreign exchange, the PGJDC spokesman said and added that unfortunate part is that we have been exporting our gemstones without value additions thus we are unable to fetch the right price for our exports.
The PGJDC is working on several projects including technology up gradation to impart the required skills and provides education to the stakeholders so that they could recognise the importance of exports after value addition, he said and added that the Gem Bazaar is a continuous feature, which will contribute immensely to the continuous efforts that PGJDC is putting in for the development of Gems and Jewellery industry of the country.
The spokesman informed that the event is being organised under strict security so that individuals are confident in bringing their valuable gemstones for trade. Gem labs are a major attraction for the buyers as they can ensure the genuineness of their stones before they can trade, he said. The spokesman said that PGJDC motive is to enhance confidence, motivation and trust in the minds of traders about companies' efforts for the development of the industry. This will further improve the value chain productivity of the sector, which will also enable the miners to rise above unnecessary exploitation and deprivation from direct trading, he said.
