Lawmakers fail to spend funds on uplift projects: huge money released to Senators, MNAs
A total of Rs 5,048.179 million for Senators and Rs 4,006.390 million for MNAs have been released to carry out development projects from 2008 till March 1, 2010 across the country. According to document available to Business Recorder, for Senators, Rs 5,048.179 million have been released for 5,582 development schemes but 2,017 schemes were completed.
Similarly, for MNAs Rs 4,006.390 million have been released for 4,324 development schemes but 1707 have been completed so far. The documents says that in Punjab for Senator, a total of Rs 2,341.131 million have been released for 2,263 schemes under Peoples Works Programme-1 (PWP) but as many as 922 schemes were completed so far. Similarly, for MNAs in Punjab, a total of Rs 2,152.471 million have been released for 2,109 schemes but only 874 schemes were completed.
In Sindh for Senators, Rs 1,176.246 million have been released for 809 schemes but 365 schemes were completed. For MNAs, Rs 969.413 million were released for 679 schemes while 327 were completed. In NWFP, a total of Rs 730.343 million have been released for Senators for 1,371 schemes but 239 were completed. For MNAs, a total of Rs 504.179 million were released for 953 schemes but 220 were completed.
In Balochistan, a total of 445.244 million have been released for Senators for 504 schemes while 144 schemes were completed. Similarly, as many as Rs 179.450 million have been released for MNAs for 246 schemes but 73 were completed.
In Fata, a total of Rs 276.883 million have been released for Senators for 557 development schemes but 329 were completed. For MNAs, Rs 166.500 million have been released for 304 schemes but 202 were completed.
In Islamabad, a total of Rs 78.332 million were released for Senators for 80 schemes but 18 were completed. For MNAs, Rs 34.377 million were released for 33 schemes while 11 were completed. The document further revealed that a total of Rs 2,423.763 million have been released for Senators for 2,225 schemes of construction of roads but 760 were completed. Similarly, for MNAs, a total of Rs 2,063.746 million have been released for 1,838 road construction schemes but 719 were completed.
Similarly, a total of Rs 1,155.507 million were released for Senators for 1,664 electrification schemes but 657 were completed. For MNA, Rs 945.951 million have been released for 1,356 electrification schemes but 544 were completed. For Health, a total of 130.95 million were released for Senators for 79 schemes while 45 were completed while Rs 71.661 have been released for MNAs for 40 health schemes but 28 were completed.
For education, a total of Rs 249.85 million have been released for Senators for 261 education schemes while 111 were completed. Rs 188.705 million have been released for MNAs for 202 education schemes but 97 were completed. According to documents, the schemes including, gas, telephone, sanitation, water supply, Pak PWD, Pepco, SNGPL, Polit Agent and other in these development funds.
