In response to years of documented cases of fraud targeting new immigration applicants, a recent administrative move by Quebec government will now allow only Quebec registered law firms and Quebec registered immigration consultants to handle the immigration process throughout the province.
Quebec Immigration Minister, Yolande James said that consulting services can now be carried out either by bona fide law firms or immigration consultants that have a registered address in Quebec with the government public company registry, or are registered members of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants and can speak French and never violated Quebec immigration law.
Under the new rules, Harvey Simard stands as pre-qualified by default to handle all immigration cases filed through Quebec. Headquartered in Montreal and led by Jean-Francois Harvey, Former Chair; Citizenship & Immigration Law National Section, Canadian Bar Association, Harvey Simard is a Canadian law firm with over 15 years of multinational immigration consultancy experience.
During her address, Ms James also said that there would be an online database that would list all registered consultants as well as professionals whose right to practice has been revoked by the province. Quebec will not only disallow unauthorised consultants to represent applicants but will also crack down on 'ghost' consultants who operate unethically and tend to fleece unsuspecting candidates. Meanwhile Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has welcomed Quebec's move and is promising action on the issue with possibility of a Federal policy within months.-PR
