Mangla dam has reached its dead level of 1,040 feet, therefore the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) is releasing only run of the river water instead of daily 30,000 cusecs water downstream in the river Jhelum command area from Tuesday, consultant Irrigation Punjab, M.H. Siddiqui, told Business Recorder.
"Water inflows in river Chenab has also dropped to 10,000 cusecs at Marala headworks," he added. Siddiqui said that Punjab has still a share of 1.15 MAF from the system till 31st March but its availability depends on the inflows of water in the rivers. He said Irsa is providing 9,500 cusecs water from the Indus zone to Punjab, Thal canal 5,500 cusecs, TP 2,000 cusecs, DG Khan 1,000 and CRP 1,000 cusecs.
He said Tarbela dam is also fast depleting its live storage and is just 10ft above its dead level of 1378 ft from where Irsa is releasing 35000 cusecs water downstream in the Indus zone for irrigation and drinking purposes. Meanwhile, Meteorological department has predicted dry weather in most parts of the country during next few days.
