The son of Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem, the central leader of the banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba was killed and four others sustained bullet injuries when armed motorcyclists ambushed them near Nazimabad No 7 on Thursday afternoon, police and witnesses said. The injured include two sons and two security guards of Maulana Nadeem, said the investigation officer.
He said the incident took place at 11:45am at main gate of the Anu Bahi Park in Nazimabad No 7. He said Maulana Nadeem along with two security guards and two sons were going to City Courts to attend the hearing of a case, in his white Mehran car bearing registration no K-1196. He said his other son and a seminary student riding a motorcycle bearing registration No KCV-1673.
As per eyewitness account, when the vehicle reached at the main gate of the Anu Bhai Park, four unidentified pillion riders on two motorcycles and wearing helmets, intercepted and sprayed them with bullets. As a result, Mavia Nadeem, 22, son of Maulana Nadeem retaliated the snipers and they gunned him down and fled. However, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem and his two other sons, Shoaib and Rashid and two security guards, Nadeem and Waseem sustained bullets injuries and rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Medicolegal Officer told Business Recorder, Mavia received five bullets in upper torso and legs while Maulana Nadeem received two bullets, one in stomach and another in hand. His condition was stated critical while the condition of other injured was said to be out of danger.
Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem is the leader of the banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba and presently working as Central Secretary Information of Ahle-e-Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat. Following the incident, panic gripped many areas of the city, especially Nagan Chowrangi area of New Karachi, where Maulana Nadeem serves as Khateeb of Jaima Masjid Siddique-e-Akbar. Heavy contingents of police and law enforcement agencies were deployed in the affected area, where markets and shops were closed and public transport suspended after the incident.
