Bearish trend was seen on the money market on Saturday though the buyers showed little interest in dollar buying, experts said. On the interbank market the rupee drifted lower versus the greenback, losing 40 paisa for buying and selling at 84.40 and 84.45, they said.
At the weekend dollar dropped to a one-month low against euro and a two-week trough against sterling on Friday, as investors pared back large bearish bets on the two European currencies following strong euro zone economic data. The biggest monthly increase on record in euro zone industrial output in January and an upward revision of figures for December also prompted a modest increase in risk appetite.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee also showed weakness in terms of dollar, losing 10 paisa for buying and selling at 84.30 and 84.50, dealers said. The rupee gave up early gains against euro, losing 85 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 115.15 and Rs 115.65, they added.
