The Punjab government has evolved a comprehensive plan for introducing drip irrigation system at subsidised rates to overcome an acute water crisis in the province.
District Officer Water Management, Sabtain Cheema told APP here on Sunday that almost all developed countries, the drip irrigation system had proved beneficial in boosting farming and an effective supply of water to crops.
He said the Punjab government had also introduced the system and it proved that it was not only an effective source for farming but also an instrument for enhancing per acre yield. He said the traditional system of watering crops through tube-wells and other means was not only costly but also badly affected the fertility of soil and created waterlogging and salinity.
