The Lahore High Court (LHC) disposed of a petition filed by a DSP, Imran Babar, challenging the ongoing inquiry against him being conducted by SSP Mubashar Ullah and directed sessions Judge to hold judicial inquiry into the matter.
Th court, however, held that the department should proceed against the petitioner in accordance with the law. The petitioner contended that on March 10 he conducted a raid and arrested robber Kamil Khan from Shah Alam Market while his two accomplices managed to escape. He said an FIR against the accused was lodged at Rang Mahal police station, but in charge investigation made no progress in the investigation, as a result of which he himself took investigation in his own hands.
During the course of investigation accused Kamil Khan told police that one Anwar Zaib the ringleader, who was also arrested, started threatening him of dire consequences. Later, he received a telephone call on behalf of SP City that if he wanted to save his job he should release Zaib, but he declined to do illegal act.
He said now police high ups had initiated inquiry proceedings against him, as they were bent upon to dismiss him from the service. The court after hearing his counsel at length disposed of the petition and directed the sessions judge Lahore to hold inquiry into the matter and submit his report within one day.
