Punjab Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has said that the federation has so far paid Rs 10 billion under the head of Net Hydel Profit (NHP) royalty to Punjab in two instalments and the next instalment of Rs 3 billion would be paid within the current year.
He was talking to a delegation of members of Punjab Assembly here Tuesday, disclosed an official. The minister said that Punjab government has adopted a firm stance on outstanding dues in respect of the NHP and made sincere efforts in this regard and that their case has been accepted by the federal government. "NHP is the constitutional right of the people of Punjab," he added.
Tanvir Kaira further said the federation would pay Rs 28 billion to Punjab under the head of NHP and the amount will be paid within 4 years. He said the first two instalments of Rs 5 billion each have been paid to Punjab. "Since 1996, Punjab has been deprived of its legal right, however, present government evolved an effective strategy and succeeded in getting approval of its demand from the federation," he concluded.
