A model village of ancient heritage of our rural life, aimed at preserving traditional culture of the province, was established at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The model showcasing agricultural tools, old irrigation methods, and other perspective of ancient rural life is likely to attract a large number of heritage lovers.
Addressing the inaugural and tree plantation ceremony, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Khan stressed the need for preserving our ancient heritage terming the model a move towards it. He urged the senior faculty to fetch traditional agricultural tools from their rural areas to showcase and preserve in the said model village so that the visitors especially, young generation can get an idea of its significance.
This is a step to give awareness to the youth regarding our glorious and rich culture, the vice chancellor added. Referring to his recent visit to Iran, he said that Iran had established the state-of-the-art museum with a special focus on saving agricultural heritage.
He pointed out as many as 60 majors in the field of agriculture were being offered in various universities of Iran. Five types of specialisation in only agronomy are being studied there, he added. Saying that agriculture is the most holistic concept, he stressed the need to peruse an interdisciplinary approach to gear up the pace of development with better integration and specialisation.
He said that the model would help visitors get back the memories of old rural life which had become obsolete with the advancement of technology. The administration officials and Deans enjoyed Lassi, Gurh, Rowh at the inauguration.
Executive Director, Endowment Fund Secretariat, Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa briefed the visitors about the proposed layout of the village and asked do able suggestions so as to incorporate them into the final project. The vice chancellor directed to resume the activities of bio-gas plant for demonstration of the visitors. The vice chancellor with guests visited the village and planted a tree on the occasion.
