The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) will rerun the 1006 dysfunctional public sector schools in the province in collaboration with the non formal sector; in the pilot phase, 100 such schools would be handed over to the selected partners after finalising necessary formalities.
According to a PEF's spokesman here on Wednesday, in order to go further in this regard, the Punjab Education Foundation arranged a brain storming session in which 11 different NGOs were invited to be briefed about the project. PEF Director CPDP Ms Maleeha Batool briefed the participants about the various features of private public partnership of the Punjab Education Foundation.
She informed them that the school buildings of 685 dysfunctional institutions are quite intact and, therefore, they can be immediately taken up to start classes. As per the PEF plan, the NGOs will appoint teachers and other staff to teach the students while the PEF will provide financial assistance and the textbooks to the students. It may be added here that PEF is already bearing educational expenses of 8 lakh-deserving students in the province, for which a sum of Rs 5 billion is being utilised.
