The judge recorded detailed statement of the DSP, now suspended, and directed him to provide cogent evidences in support of his allegations against the SPs. SP CIA Umar Virk and SP City division Zeeshan Asghar, who allegedly ordered the DSP to release the robber, also appeared before inquiry judge along with their counsels.
In his statement suspended DSP, Imran, reiterated that he had received a telephone call on behalf of SP City and CIA and the caller threatened him to release the arrested robber namely Zaib if he (DSP) wanted to save his job. "But I refused to obey such illegal order as a result I was suspended without any show-cause notice," he added.
He said that he had appeared before Punjab inspector general of police's inquiry committee but the committee head DIG Major Mubashar (Retd) was not present in his office. The suspended police officer further said that the arrested robber had connection with banned tribal groups who had been threatening him of dire consequences.
"Had I not informed the media about the whole episode in time the criminals would have killed me," DSP alleged in his statement. The D&SJ adjourned further proceedings of judicial inquiry till Thursday (today) and directed the DSP to come up with written evidences.
